Why choose an educational trip to Poland?

Poland plays a crucial role in 20th-century history, with cultural echoes that reach far beyond its borders. Naturally, this makes it an ideal destination for history buffs, but there is also plenty for art, geography, psychology, and literature lovers to enjoy. Our tours are also tailored by subject for history, psychology and sociology, religious studies, and criminology students.

Our school trips to Poland centre around Krakow, one of the nation’s most historic cities, and its surrounding areas. This includes trips that trace the Road to the Holocaust, from the streets of Krakow to the heartbreaking sites of Auschwitz-Birkenau, where students can gain a profound insight into one of the darkest chapters in human history.

A wander through Krakow’s mediaeval core will instantly transport students back in time and delight them with the Old Town Market Square — the oldest mediaeval market square in Europe — ringed with horse-and-carriage rides, historic buildings, and plenty of places to stop and enjoy a paczki — Polish doughnuts!

Top attractions in Poland

With 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Poland offers plenty of opportunities for students to engage with their subjects with immersive firsthand experiences, from Weieliczka Salt Mine (the highlight of the trip for many!) and the Historic Centre of Krakow both easily accessible on a tailor-made trip from NGT, where you’ll work with an expert trip planner to pick and choose the attractions that best suit your itinerary.

Auschwitz-Birkenau ⓘ

Help students understand the scale of the holocaust, humanising history lessons as they learn the dangers of discrimination and racial hatred from the atrocities of World War II.

Krakow Old Town ⓘ

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Krakow’s Old Town includes St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cloth Hall, an underground museum, and Wawel Castle, perfect for history students looking to absorb local culture.

Wieliczka Salt Mines ⓘ

A guided tour of this 13th-century salt mine offers a unique blend of science, art, and history in a magical underground setting, with sculptures - and an entire chapel - carved completely from salt.

Schindler Factory & Museum ⓘ

Take an immersive trip through history within the former enamel factory of Oskar Schindler, which now offers a deeply emotional timeline of Jewish struggle and survival under the Nazis.

Galicia Museum ⓘ

Students can celebrate the Jewish culture of Polish Calicia in the heart of Krakow’s Jewish district, with this museum that commemorates victims of the Holocaust and challenges common misconceptions about the culture and history.

Czestochowa ⓘ

Take a day trip outside Krakow to visit the Monastery of Jasna Góra for a unique, meaningful look into Poland’s religious and cultural history, ideal for students of RE who wish to visit the pilgrimage site here.

FAQs about school tours to Poland

What is there to see in Poland?

From Krakow and Warsaw’s history and art museums to its 14 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Poland has much to see and explore on a school trip, with over 1,000 years of history and culture to explore. Poland is also home to sites for Holocaust education, Jewish heritage, and culture - including Galicia Jewish Museum, Schindler’s Factory Museum, and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps (now a museum).

Krakow is also home to Wawel Castle, Wieliczka Salt Mine, and multiple religious sites, with the pilgrimage site in Czestochowa just a day trip away.

At NGT, we are dedicated to curating thoughtful, diverse itineraries for your school trip, tailored according to subject and age group. Our team of travel experts and experienced educators works with you to design a trip that aligns with learning outcomes and helps students stay engaged with the subject matter from the moment they land in Poland.

While this depends on where in Poland you’re visiting, we recommend a 3-5 day trip length, especially for a city like Krakow. This will allow you ample time to see your chosen destination and any surrounding areas of interest. We can be flexible on how long your trip will last, and work with you to ensure your students see all the museums, historical sites, and cultural attractions they need to create memories and support their education.

Poland’s landscape is diverse across the country, from beaches in the North to the Tatra Mountains in the South. While certain locations are prime for skiing, especially in winter, we recommend visiting Poland in late spring or early autumn to enjoy warm weather and avoid the extreme temperatures seen in winter and summer months.
