Modern architects such as BIG, MVRDV, Zaha Hadid, Foster + Partners and Daniel Libeskind have all designed buildings in this iconic forward-thinking city.
Epitomising an aura of Scandi-cool, the city oozes a deep-rooted love for simplicity and effortless style. Perfect for students of Architecture, the city showcases a distinctive balance of striking classical buildings and bright and bold modern venues.
Recent years have seen a boom in modern architecture in Copenhagen, for both home-grown architects and international stars who are finding their place along the city skyline - many acclaimed with RIBA European Awards.
The Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) is the main exhibition space in Denmark for architecture, where you can experience a broad range of exhibitions. The exhibitions change every two-three months and typically have either an overarching theme or a special focus on a Danish or international architect. They seek to communicate this in an interactive and engaging way that sometimes also make active use of the surrounding city space.
With an extension to the building made by architect Zaha Hadid in 2005 and also Finn Juhl’s house in 2008, the museum has gained a strong architectural profile. The museum has changing exhibitions and is easily combined with the Finn Juhl's House museum. It houses French Impressionist art and Danish art with an exquisite collection of paintings by artists such as Monet and Gauguin.
Visit Nikolaj Kunsthal and experience Danish and international contemporary art in unique historical surroundings. The art centre is located in the old Church of Saint Nicholas, dating back to the 13th century. Beautiful architecture interacts with innovative and engaging contemporary art. Exhibitions are constantly changing, so there is always something new to see and experience. The Art Centre is a living house with concerts, artist talks, performances and lots more.
