About this trip

For those studying Pearson Edexcel’s GCSE History Option 10, Anglia has created this fully guided tour to provide an engaging and relevant introduction to the Historic Environment: Whitechapel c1870-1900, crime, policing and the inner city. This tour will bring the topic alive for students, helping them to visualise the environment in a way which a text book cannot.

Focusing on the case study of Jack the Ripper, the tour will include a detailed examination of investigative policing in Whitechapel, taking in developments in techniques of detective investigation, including the use of sketches, photographs and interviews; problems caused by the need for cooperation between the Metropolitan Police, the City of London Police and Scotland Yard and the added problems caused by an unprecedented threat and its terrifying reality.

This trip is endorsed by Pearson Edexcel for use alongside their curriculum.

Why choose Anglia for Guided History Trips?

At Anglia we care about our customers, our staff, the places we visit, the stories we tell and the organisations we work with. These key principles define who we are and what we do. We believe they are also the reason why Anglia is the market leader in fully-guided history trips for UK schools. We work with you to design a bespoke tour, which meets the specific needs of your school and supports what you are teaching in class. We start by asking what you want your students to see and what you want them to experience then build the tour around these requirements. A tour which, as the testimonials on our website show, your students will find thought-provoking, engaging and enjoyable.

The best part was watching the students be engaged with what both of the tour guides had to say. As a result of this, students were asking questions to deepen their understanding, all responses were delivered in an age appropriate manner. Students are using the knowledge that they learnt for the tour and within their exam answers. Through going on a walking tour the guides brought to life the conditions and the realities of living in Whitechapel during the 1800s.
